Golden Gates

Golden Gates

Golden Gates offers audiences an entertaining and authentic glimpse into Old Russia through music, song, and dance.  The repertoire is centered around masterpieces of Russian folklore and represents the diversity of the culture, ranging from gently humorous songs, to elaborate lyrical suites, to pulsating dance numbers.

The program is broad and varied, with something to appeal to everyone, including audience participation though clapping and learning Russian songs and words.  Lilting balalaikas, dynamic bayan accordion, unique trashotky and loshky, humorous dances, and superb vocals combine for an exhilarating and educational performance for audiences of all ages.

Waggin'Ears

Charles Pettee

For over 20 years, Chuck and the Waggin'Ears have delighted audiences at clubs, festivals, and special events with their blend of traditional bluegrass and original compositions. In addition to Charles Pettee (founding member of Chapel Hill's The Shady Grove Band) on mandolin, guitar and voice, the group features the talents of the legendary Fiddlin' Al McCanless (current fiddle player for the group CelticJam, and formerly with the Red Clay Ramblers), and the outstanding John Boulding (formerly with Wyatt Rice and Santa Cruz and current banjo and dobro player with The Shady Grove Band). Chuck and the Waggin'Ears have the spontaneity and joy of good friends making the music they love, combined with the stage presence and audience appeal of the seasoned professionals that they are.
United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County voted Chuck and the Waggin'Ears "Presenting Artist of the Year 2007-2008"

Suzanne Rousso, violist and formerly Director of Education for the North Carolina Symphony and Director of Operations for the Portland (Maine) Symphony, was named as Mallarmé’s new artistic director in June 2008.
